Safety & Supervision

Safety & Supervision

Freedom,
with a framework.

Students come to CCI to grow in confidence and independence. They do so within clear boundaries, dependable routines and a close-knit community of adults who know where students should be, notice when something is wrong and act quickly when help is needed.

A deliberately small community

About one staff member for every two students.

At approximately 45 staff and 95 students, CCI is a school where students are known. Teachers, residence dons, office staff and school leaders see students in different parts of the day and communicate closely. A missed check-in, a change in behaviour or a concern raised by a friend does not disappear into a large system.

Everyday supervision

Present, accountable and age-appropriate.

Staff responsibility continues after the school day ends. Residence dons provide the main point of contact outside class, while students receive increasing freedom according to their age, maturity, conduct and demonstrated responsibility.

01

Adults are present

Students see and speak with staff throughout the day: in school, at meals, during activities and in residence. Dons remain available when students are out in town or back in their residences.

02

Students check in

Students check in with their dons after school and at the times set for their grade and schedule. They must keep their phone available and respond promptly to calls or messages from staff.

03

Independence is earned

Older and consistently responsible students may receive greater freedom. That freedom remains connected to sign-out procedures, agreed locations, check-ins and curfews.

The daily framework

Everyone knows the plan.

Predictable routines make it possible to give students meaningful freedom without losing sight of their safety. Expectations are explained clearly, recorded in the Student Handbook and reinforced by residence staff.

After school

Every student checks in with their residence don before beginning their afternoon or evening plans.

While out

Students follow sign-out instructions, stay in approved areas, travel with others when required and remain contactable.

On return

Students return by the appointed time and make sure staff know they are safely back in residence.

If plans change

Students contact their don. A late or missed check-in is followed up promptly because accurate whereabouts matter in an emergency.

Current residence curfews

Clear times. No guesswork.

Sunday to Thursday 7:50 p.m. All grades
Friday & Saturday 10:00 p.m. Grades 9 and 10
Friday & Saturday 11:00 p.m. Grades 11 and 12

On Friday and Saturday, Grade 11 and 12 students also check in at 8:00 p.m. and again at 10:00 p.m. Special schedules, school events or a class the following morning may require an earlier return.

Life in Lanciano

A real town.
Real responsibility.

CCI students live in the centre of Lanciano, not behind a closed campus gate. They learn to navigate a compact, walkable town, manage their time and make sensible decisions as part of daily life.

This independence is structured. Students follow approved boundaries and residence procedures, keep their phones on, respond to their dons and return on time. Staff remain connected to students and maintain strong relationships within the local community.

CCI also works cooperatively with local authorities and emergency services. When a serious concern requires outside expertise, the school follows Italian law and involves the appropriate professionals without delay.

Safe residential spaces

Home, with firm boundaries.

CCI residences are supervised by dons and supported by monitored security systems. Visitors may enter only with authorization, and students may not enter a residence assigned to another gender.

Fire alarms, smoke detectors and extinguishers are placed throughout school and residence buildings. Evacuation procedures are posted, and fire and earthquake drills take place at the beginning of each semester.

  • Residence access and visitor rules are explicit.
  • Students are expected to respect people, property and shared spaces.
  • Staff know who is in residence and follow up when a student is late.
  • Emergency procedures are practised, not simply written down.

Conduct & accountability

Clear standards. A clear response.

Safety depends on how people treat one another. Students and families acknowledge the school’s expectations, and staff respond when those standards are not met.

Respect

Bullying, harassment, discrimination, intimidation and retaliation are not accepted. Concerns are taken seriously, investigated promptly and followed up.

Responsible choices

The Code of Conduct sets firm expectations for attendance, alcohol, drugs, smoking and vaping, online behaviour, residence life and respect for school property.

Fair consequences

Responses are proportionate to the behaviour and may be progressive. Serious conduct or safeguarding concerns receive immediate attention and may involve families or outside authorities.

Safeguarding

Every adult has a responsibility to act.

Safeguarding is not assigned to one office and forgotten. Staff receive regular training, designated safeguarding leads oversee procedure, and recruitment includes background, reference and qualification checks appropriate to each role.

A student may speak with any trusted adult. Concerns are reported promptly, documented carefully and reviewed by the appropriate school leaders. Information is handled discreetly and shared only with those who need it to protect the student or meet legal responsibilities.

Where a concern involves possible harm, the first priority is immediate safety. CCI then coordinates appropriate support, keeps the matter under review and works with families, child-protection professionals or law enforcement when required.

The purpose of the framework

The aim is not to control young people.
It is to help them become genuinely independent.

CCI’s systems are designed to make room for growth while ensuring that students remain known, accountable and supported. Families can review the detailed rules and procedures in the Student Handbook.
