When students first arrived at CCI, executive director, Mr. D'Alessandro, told a few of us about the fashion program being launched this year. We were thrilled, and we have been patiently waiting for the moment the Sartoria program would be rolled put. On Thursday, January 27, we finally got the chance to start our journey to create a fashion look of our own and possibly manufacture a garment of our design. In the student lounge at the Allegria after school, we spent a few hours with a group of presenters from Milan looking through a slide show about Italian streetwear presented by Silvio Luciani, world famous Style Consultant and his team of assistants. We learned about body types and how to create the perfect look for each of us. A body type is different for each person and because no one has the same body, some fashion styles work better with certain types. We’ve all heard of the hourglass figure, but the apple shape or pear shape are also variations of this. A straight body type is one with less curves than most. Then after the slideshow, students spent an hour looking through different types of magazines and started collecting images for a mood board that would help us create outfits at the end of the semester. A mood board is an arrangement of photos, images, materials that help to focus the creative process of producing a new garment. It helps us plan out our final style or look and keep our ideas coherent. Today was one of the most exciting days this semester so far. We enjoyed meeting Mr. Luciani and his team, and now we cannot wait to move forward and start designing our own clothes.
