We had an early start on Saturday morning as we made our way from Lanciano to Rome. This gave us the chance to catch a morning view of the beautiful Maiella mountains.
Our first stop in Rome was the Colosseum. Being able to visit the amphitheatre in the morning before it got too hot was certainly worth the early rise.
After the Colosseum tour, we jumped onto the air conditioned metro to avoid walking too far in the heat. Our destination: The Spanish Steps.
From there, students had time to do a little shopping, hydrate, and refuel.
In the afternoon, students had the option to visit the National Gallery of Modern Art or Capitoline Museums. Meanwhile, the hardcore history enthusiasts pushed through the heat for a walking tour starting at the Spanish Steps and onward to the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and more, though the highlight may have been finding a fountain with wonderfully cold water.
