It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Geoffrey R. Smith. Geoff suffered a fatal heart attack on the morning of December 4, 2019 in Newmarket, Ontario. Geoff was a remarkable man and an exemplary educator who was a friend to all whose lives he touched.
He devoted his life to his students and left an undeniable mark in their development.
Being a man of strong values, his acute awareness of the importance of a life lived for service to others was his mantra for everyday living. A day never went by, where Geoff did not show an act of kindness to another individual. This was as varied as volunteering to guide parents through our town, assist whomever had a technical issue with their computer, wash dishes, and recycle everything he could find. His diligent servitude to our community was commendable. It was these acts of integrity, compassion, sacrifice and courage that empowered the rest of us to emulate his example.
His colleagues will remember him for these acts and for his tireless devotion to our school and his remarkable wit. He was a man of great intellect and a brilliant problem solver who faced every challenge with resolve. He will be missed by all.
Geoff had always claimed, that marrying his beautiful wife Virginia, was his proud achievement in life. Ginny has lovingly supported him always and our heart goes out to her in this time of grief.
In honour of Geoff, the school atrium on Via Cavour 13, will be named the Smith Atrium.
