We woke up early Sunday morning and headed to Florence; in my mind, it’s one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
We reached Florence in the early afternoon. Before checking in to the Hotel Adriatico, we stopped at Piazzale Michelangelo for an amazing view of the city. Our students wanted to stay, perhaps not fully realizing that things would only get better.
From the hotel, the Accademia is a short walk. This gallery houses David, the most iconic sculptures in the world. It’s amazing to think that Michelangelo was only 30 years old when he completed this masterpiece.
Afterward, we visited Florence’s famous leather market. Our students were quick to learn the art of the haggle; I believe one young lady purchased four purses that day!
After dinner, we set out on a tour of the town, which included a walk along the Arno River toward Ponte Vecchio. We ended the tour at the Duomo, Florence’s centerpiece.
The long day had everyone tuckered out and in bed shortly after the tour to rest up for our next big adventure on Monday.
