Friday, November 19, 2021: Clothes Make the Man…and the Woman
By Elle Stinchcombe
When I first arrived at CCI I was excited to try on the uniform I would be wearing every school day. In fact, one of the first things I saw when I entered my room at the girls’ residence was my crested jacket on a hanger with a bright green post-it note that said “WELCOME ELLE”. I already felt like I was a part of something special but this just added to the excitement. For me, it was a great feeling knowing all the people here with me at CCI would be wearing the same uniform. The No.1 Dress uniform is a symbol of that message, that we are all in this together and no matter where we come from originally, the struggles or triumphs we have experienced in the past, we have all come to this same point at the same time and together. We are here to fight the same battles and we have each other as teammates and colleagues. I expected to love the uniform and my expectations were met. I just wish I had known to bring my own white collared shirts! The bonus of only having one of each garment however is it forces you to keep up with your laundry. Which is never a bad thing. As the days and months pass, the more a sense of community I feel myself growing into. Kind of like the uniform, the more I wear it, the more it feels who I am.
