Campania 2019

Campania 2019

This weekend, CCI held its first overnight trip of the year. On our way to Sorrento, we first stopped in Caserta, for a tour of the palace and gardens. Construction of the palace began in 1752 under the Bourbon King, Charles VII of Naples. By volume, it is the largest royal palace in the world!

Next, we toured the ancient ruins of Pompeii. The town was devastated in the year 79 with the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, was buried in ash and pumice, and only rediscovered in the 18th century.

We spent the night in Sorrento, a coastal town famous for its lemons and ceramics. Before having some free time to explore the town, we shared a meal together at our hotel.

The next day, we boarded a small bus for a tour along the Amalfi Coast. The town of Amalfi is only 25 km from Sorrento, but the famously windy roads makes it a 2 hour journey!

After Amalfi, we took the bus to the hilltop town of Ravello, City of Music, for some spectacular views of the coast.
