75th Anniversary of the Italian Campaign

To commemorate the 75^th anniversary of the Italian Campaign, a ceremony was held in Ortona this morning in the newly renamed Canadian Heroes Square.

The Canadian delegation included Governor General Julie Payette, Canadian Ambassador to Italy Alexandra Bugailiskis, Minister of Veteran Affairs Lawrence MacAulay, and Veterans of the Italian Campaign.

We were honoured to be asked to participate in the ceremony. Our students welcomed guests, distributed poppies and carnations, and during the ceremony, delivered solemn readings.

Afterward, Her Excellency Julie Payette, met with our students, making a point to shake each of their hands, ask their names, and learn about our school. Needless to say, we felt quite privileged. Our students also had the remarkable opportunity to speak with Canadian Veterans about their experiences during World War II, and thank them for their service.
