Academic Travel

Academic Travel

Italy is not the backdrop. It is part of the curriculum.

At CCI, travel is not a holiday with classes squeezed around it. It is planned learning. Historic streets, archaeological sites, galleries, museums, landscapes and living communities give students a richer way to understand what they study.

Learning in place

Travel withacademic purpose.

A work of art changes when you stand before it. History becomes immediate when you walk through the place where it happened. A landscape makes science, geography, politics and culture visible all at once.

Academic travel is a required part of the CCI experience because these encounters deepen classroom learning in ways a textbook cannot.

01

Prepare

Teachers establish the historical, cultural or subject-specific context before students arrive.

02

Encounter

Teacher-led exploration and specialist guides help students look closely, ask better questions and make connections.

03

Carry it forward

The places, ideas and questions students encounter return with them to classroom discussions, projects and written work.

Overnight journeys

More time in a place.More layers to uncover.

2 overnight journeys
each semester

Longer journeys let students study a city in depth, moving between landmark sites and smaller experiences connected to their courses and interests.

Itineraries vary, but past destinations have included Florence, Venice, Rome, Pompeii, Naples, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast.

Tours by Choice may lead students into an art exhibition, science collection, church, archaeological site, performance or less familiar corner of a city, guided by CCI teachers and trusted local experts.

Day trips

A day away.A lesson that stays.

From Lanciano, a school day can continue in a Roman forum, a regional museum, a medieval abbey, a mountain town or beside the Adriatic. Shorter journeys make room for focused learning without losing the rhythm of school life.

History & ideas

Rome, Chieti, L'Aquila, Sulmona and the layered communities of Abruzzo.

Art & architecture

Museums, castles, churches, monasteries and historic town centres.

Landscape & wellbeing

The Adriatic coast, mountain communities and the Apennine landscape.

Time together

The learning is serious. The memories are joyful.

Academic purpose leads the itinerary, but it does not fill every minute. Within clear boundaries and meeting times, students have room to enjoy a piazza, choose lunch, browse a shop, take photographs or simply spend time with friends.

These moments build independence, deepen friendships and become part of the story students carry home.
