Student Life

The Italian Experience

CCI's Summer Academy presents significant advantages for a study abroad program; Italy and its diverse heritage, culture and recreation are thoroughly integrated into our Summer Academy experience. The collective spirit of the students' desire and excitement about learning combined with the teachers' dedication to teaching and community involvement create the perfect combination for a successful learning experience.

When seeking a study abroad program, Italy has so much to offer. Located minutes from the Adriatic coast, Lanciano is beautifully situated between the ocean and the Apennine mountains. The vicinity of the hot stone beaches and the relief of the cool mountain air is most appreciate during the region's Summer months. The air is always clean and fresh and this small city of 40,000 people is alive with musical concerts all summer long. The streets are lined with small cafés, restaurants and people as the ancient historical centre comes alive for an array of festivities.

The beach at San Vito Marina is a ten minute drive from the town. Local mountain trains are available for day excursions to the magnificent hill-top towns and the CCI bus is always on call for after-school trips to a variety of local beaches. Extra-curricular sports include beach volleyball, hiking, soccer, swimming and scuba in the Adriatic and aerobics and weightlifting at the local health club.

Meals

Students and faculty have lunch and dinner at the School's Inn, The Allegria. Meals are prepared by  Italian trained chefs and a full kitchen staff. The availability of fresh fruit and vegetables is year round in this region and contributes to nutritious and tasty meals. Recently, after a complete restructuring of the local Farmer's Market, students now have the opportunity to enjoy some of their meals in this beautiful airy structure complete with terraces, a variety of food stations and a Gelato and Coffee bar.

Residence Life

Faculty chaperones (Dons) live with the students in the college residences which are located just minutes away from the main school building. There are two residences, one for boys and one for girls, most students share a bedroom. Each residence has a common room where students can socialize and watch movies. Each residence has wireless internet access and a phone line.

Students can rent or purchase mobile phones at an affordable price in Lanciano, and SIM cards are also available at a reasonable cost. We suggest that all students purchase an international phone card once they arrive in Italy to make long distance calls.

Students are responsible for their own laundry. Washers are located in the residences and are free of charge. Students may use these appliances anytime after school and during the evening until 11:00 p.m. Clothing racks are available for drying personal laundry.

Curfew

All students must abide by the following curfew times:

  • Sunday to Thursday:
9:15 pm curfew. Lights Out at 11:30 pm
  • Friday and Saturday:
12:00 am Midnight curfew. 12:30 am Lights Out

Family Visits/Travel

Parents wishing to visit and/or travel must do so at the end of the summer session, due to the intense nature of the academic and travel program.
