Amalfi Coast

In semester one, CCI visits the Amalfi Coast complete with trips to Pompeii, Sorrento and Naples. Pompeii, an ancient Roman seaside town complete with well preserved streets, shops, mosaics, frescoes, and people from Vesuvius's eruption in 79 A.D., is explored first-hand by CCI students. The town, which has been patiently unearthed and preserved by archaeologists since digging commenced in 1748, is an ancient wonder which has captured the imagination of visitors since its discovery.

This trip also includes the stunningly beautiful town of Sorrento and the Amalfi coast with its miles of plunging volcanic rockface densely populated with beautiful hotels and villas clinging to the steep incline of rock layered above warm seashores. As the southern-most trip of the school year, students get a sense of the various cultural influences that this part of Italy has encountered thoughout the centuries with Greeks, Romans, Normans, Arabs, Angevins, Bourbons and the religious and political influences of Garibaldini, Fascists, and Christian Democrats.
